Note: The sad and diverse romantic lives of the people who come to the Ballhaus Barmbek ballroom in Hamburg are closely followed in this drama. Each table in the ballroom has a telephone on it so as to speed up the mating process. Some are pathetic, others simply hard-pressed to remain polite, like the studly Axel, whom most of the dance-hall's women want to dance with. One of the patrons [Kiev Stingl] rails out against the world in his own poetic language, quoting fragments of Der Blumengewandte Flaneur, Totenköpfe, and Die Besoffene Schlägerei. Amongst the musicians in the film: Zazie de Paris [real name: Solange Dymensztein], a French Jewish transexual in the finest tradition of transexual chanteuse; Mona Mur [real name: Sabine Bredy ?], a German goth-singer; Lousiana Red, a blues singer [real name: Iverson Minter], and Nico. There are three scenes with Nico, walking through the bar singing All Tomorrow's Parties, König, and Purple Lips.
